Later in the day we saw in the press text of CHOU EN-LAI' s reply to PEARSON. There is nothing new in this but only an insistence on arguments previously advanced. It is clear that there is NO chance of the Chinese Government changing its position in the near future. We had asked RAGHAVAN to discuss these matters with CHOU EN-LAI on lines you had suggested. We have had NO information from him about this matter.
